SUPPORT FOR EMPLOYERS AND HR

When a complaint crosses teams, roles or reporting lines

A workplace concern can become difficult to manage when the people involved work closely together, a senior leader is named, or responsibility is spread across departments. An external investigator can provide separation from those internal relationships and a defined process for examining the evidence.

For Melbourne organisations managing complex reporting structures, we start by clarifying who will commission the work, what the investigator is asked to determine and who will make any subsequent decisions. Relevant policies and reporting requirements are considered when agreeing the brief.

Planning your investigation

Can you assist with workplace culture concerns?

Wendy’s experience includes workplace culture reviews and organisational reviews. Discuss whether the concern calls for an allegation-based investigation, a broader review or another response, as these involve different questions and scopes.

Can interviews be conducted remotely or in person?

Yes. Our investigators can conduct interviews via Microsoft Teams, supporting participants in different cities and regional towns. In-person arrangements can also be discussed. We consider privacy, accessibility and the evidence involved, and confirm the appropriate format and any travel requirements as part of the scope.

How much will an investigation cost?

Cost depends on the number of allegations and participants, the volume of records and the complexity of the enquiries. Start with an initial discussion so we can agree what is required and provide an estimate.

Does every complaint need a formal investigation?

No. An initial assessment helps identify whether an investigation, internal support, management action or another response is appropriate. An external investigator can be particularly useful where conflicts, seniority or complexity affect an internal process.
